Storm Destructs Buildings and Cut Power Supplies in Northeast

Winds at a speed of 70 miles per hour along with heavy rains have created devastation in parts of Northeast and Mid-Pacific Saturday night, leaving more than half-million people powerless and without any transportation facility. The utility crews are struggling with the broken trees scattered on the road and destructed buildings to restore electricity and shift shelters to safer places.

Warnings were extended due to weather predictions aired by National Weather Service for Sunday following four inches of heavy rainfall in the region. The storm affected some parts of Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey.

Difficulties were faced by customers in traveling with about 500 passengers trapped for seven to eight hours due to power interruption in a New Jersey Transit train, stated the spokesman Dan Stessel on Sunday. Flights for New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport were redirected to Boston's Logan International Airport, while Newark Liberty International Airport’s flights were terminated for almost four hours on Saturday.

The storm left 265,000 in the New York City area and 235,000 in New Jersey in dark. 70,000 customers from Philadelphia were without electricity and about 80,000 in Connecticut had to face the power cut.

Transit through trains was ceased by New Jersey as trees were reported to have plunged on to overhead wires. The outburst if emergency calls will be talked by the U. S police with the help of additional 911 operators that were introduced on Saturday.
