Figures and reports have confirmed that sales of electronic book readers, or e-readers, displayed for the first ever time at the IT Show, took off at the four-day fair which was closed yesterday. The event took place at Suntec Singapore.
Exhibitors at the first major consumer-electronics show of the ongoing year shared that they witnessed "brisk business" for the e-book readers and also received various enquiries for the gadgets, which are utilized to read digital books.
McCoy, the local firm which is involved in selling digital lifestyle products, managed to sell off all of its 100 units of the Cool-er e-reader, which was priced at $479. The e-readers were sold out within the first two hours of the show, which began on Thursday.
Last Saturday as well, the company had sold all 70 units of $99 iRiver Story, another one of its e-readers.
"We didn't expect them to sell so fast. Singaporeans are attracted to new tech gadgets, especially if they take off in Western countries", said Sales Executive, Mr. Willie Chan.
