Honda gives glimpse of Insight hybrid

Honda gives glimpse of Insight hybridDetroit - Honda has given a glimpse of the 2010 five-door Insight hybrid sedan that will debut at the Detroit Motor Show in January, showing an aerodynamically inspired design based on the concept shown in Paris in October this year.

The front fascia is in one colour only.

The rear end is similar to the Toyota's Prius.

An eco-drive assist system gives the driver real-time feedback about the driving performance to help reduce fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions.

It is supported by visual cues such as a speedometer background that fades from green, for the most efficient driving, to blue which indicates excessive fuel consumption.

The Insight is expected to have most of the hybrid components with the Honda Civic mild hybrid, making it cheaper than the Prius. Although Honda has not revealed the price, it is expected to sell for under 20,000 dollars in the United States.

The mild hybrid gives the petrol engine an additional boost during acceleration and supports the engine at low speeds. (dpa)
