Student to Provide Help to Mother with Cancer

Chris Way, who is now 17 years old, lost his mother when he was just 11 years old.

"The middle school years were tough not having a maternal figure to welcome me when I arrived home from school every day. Over the years I did my best to cope with my mother's death and moved on as best as possible - just as she would want me to”, said Chris.

Chris and his fellow Lincoln Southwest High School Student Council members have decided to host the second annual Green and White Affair on Friday, to create awareness and make money for the American Cancer Society.

Last year, Green and White Affair raised around $5,000, and $3,000 in donations, which allowed Chris and Southwest High School to construct a school in Africa to promote Oprah’s O Ambassadors Program.

Chris said that the Green and White Affair is not just meant to make money, rather it is also related to providing education, hope and creating awareness.

Table tents at the event, which will be held at the Lodge at Wilderness Ridge, will provide information regarding the diseases. The objective is to make $10,000.

Chris revealed that the main aim is to find a therapy "so that we will see a cancer-free world”.
