How does the psychology of players change with time? What are the factors that drive the player? Answers to all such questions were shared by a famous Game Developer Sid Meier in his speech at Games Developers Conference in San Francisco. His speech was titled "The Psychology of Game Design (Everything You Know Is Wrong)" and aimed at explaining how the irrational demands of the players should be attained in accordance with what is going on in the player's mind.

Meier is also Director of Creative Development at Firaxis Games and he discussed the importance of pampering players and giving them a hint of victory in initial 15 minutes to keep them glued to the game with a hope that all rosy will happen further in the game.

He also highlights that it becomes very important for the designer to do away with all the logics very neatly, so that the expectations of the players are properly met.

The designer of Civilization said that anything that is offered to the players is taken by them gladly because they think it's their achievement and therefore tend to enjoy the game. He added that for the setbacks to be injected, it is necessary to handle the same crucially.

Talking about the psychology of the players, Meier stated, "Player psychology has nothing to do with rational thought".
