Public Health Trust To Table For Jackson Crisis

The Board of Trustees of the Public Health Trust is revealed to convene a special meeting on Monday in order to discuss the ongoing budget crisis at Jackson Health Systems.

The meeting emerges following Jackson's President Eneida Roldan announcement that the state would not be extending $100 million in emergency funding to support the hospital fill its $230 million budget hole.

Martha Baker, president of the Service Employees International Union Local 1991 quoted, "We think management needs to get some real solutions. This cutting and shaving Jackson into pieces is not the answer. We need some fiscal accountability and we need it now."

Last week, county Mayor Carlos Alvarez disclosed that they were not in favour to extend a $67 million loan to the hospital which would tide them over until federal money comes arrives in April.

In addition, the mayor clarified that current radical restructuring plans are not backed by the county leaders.

The Public Health Trust is expected to come up with a comprehensive recovery plan on Monday to fulfill a Tuesday deadline given to them by the county.
