The First Lady of the US, Michelle Obama has written the cover story for the next issue of the Newsweek. The March 22nd issue has taken up the problem of childhood obesity and its cover depicts Mrs. Obama holding an apple and the cover carries the title “Feed Your Children Well: My Fight Against Childhood Obesity”.
She has advocated the point that it’s not the kids but the parents and the elders who need to take up an initiative in solving the problem. She has thrown light on the fact that the food that kids get to eat both at home as well as the school cafeteria is being offered to them by the adults, thereby stating that it is not the decision of the kids to eat foods that are rich in sugar and fats.
“We're in charge. We make these decisions”, she wrote.
She further opines that the solutions to this dilemma do not really require to be passed in the form of a bill in the Senate, rather, it simply requires an initiative among the elders in guiding and supporting the children to follow a healthy lifestyle.
However, the process demands certain responsibilities to be fulfilled by the officials and the private sector executives in providing a healthy environment within the cities and states and manufacturing healthier food, respectively.
