Patients reduce the risk of heart disease by 30% if their vitamin D level is increased from low to normal levels. Hence some extra sunshine and supplements that contain Vitamin D may fight off heart related diseases.
The people who are deficient in Vitamin D should try to raise its amount in their blood, which will help them reduce the risk of a heart stroke, according to researchers. Hence, low Vitamin D and heart health are connected. Studies reveal that about three-quarters of Americans have a concentration of Vitamin D in their blood which is under the normal level of 30 nanograms per milliliter.
But it is yet to be clarified that whether the low amount of vitamin D in the blood leads to heart attacks, shared Dr. J. Brent Muhlestein, the lead author of the new study.
The findings of the study were announced by him at the American College of Cardiology annual meeting in Atlanta. He said, "The question we looked at is, if you do something about it, like taking vitamin D supplements, does that reduce the risk?".
People with low vitamin D tend to have weaker bones which further increase the risk of many diseases like cancer.
However, people should not take supplements on their own, and these should always be consumed under a doctor's supervision.
