On Monday, U. S. shares were slow in trading. While Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 40 points to 10584, the Standard & Poor's 500 slid 8 points to 1142 and the Nasdaq Composite Index fell 30 points to 2347.

Shares of Boston Scientific Corp., Chordiant Software Inc. and Amylin Pharmaceuticals Inc. are actively trading.

However, after a report that the medical-device company had shelved sales of all implantable cardioverter defibrillators, or ICDs, Boston Scientific’s shares fell.

Analyst from Bernstein Research said that a documentation fault in the company's filings to the U. S. Food and Drug Administration concerning a manufacturing-process change was the reason for this halt.

Meanwhile, Phillips-Van Heusen Corp. has agreed to take over clothing company, Tommy Hilfiger for $3 billion. Phillips-Van Heusen expects that this deal would at once add to revenue.

Amylin Pharmaceuticals Inc. stocks were up by 13%.

In afternoon trading on Nasdaq, shares of Alkermes increased $1.54 or 12.6% to $13.75.

Sterling Construction Co.'s fourth-quarter earnings dropped 73% due to growing competition and bad weather in Texas.

American Oriental Bioengineering Inc.'s fourth-quarter revenue swelled 49%, larger than what was predicted.

American depositary shares of Chinese Internet company Baidu Inc., soared as it is most likely that Google Inc. will shut down its Chinese-language search engine.

After an analyst said that a recent trip to Asia showed "things weren't smelling right for semi cap equipment", shares of several semiconductor slid.
