As compared to the sexual partners that females in the "Swinging Sixties" had, today’s women have advanced and increased their partners to an average of 5.65. In this study, which involved 3,000 females of all ages conducted by the chain Lloydspharmacy, it was found that females at 24 years of age in 60s had 1.72 sexual partners, very less than what is observed today. Although females in today’s time are well-informed and well-screened, this study highlights the elevating risk of “sexual health related problems” in females.
Spokesman of Lloydspharmacy said that the reason behind no-evident-improvement in the number of cervical cancer patients possibly is the increasing number of sexual partners. The chain is working for promotion of vaccine against HPV among females as the human papilloma virus is the most common known cause of its spread and is transmitted sexually.
"HPV infections are common in younger people. If you are sexually active the cervical cancer vaccine is one of the most effective ways to prevent infection”, said Clare Kerr, Lloydspharmacy's Sexual Health Expert.
The three dose vaccination program by NHS intends to reduce the cases of cervical cancer by vaccinating girls of 12 to 18 years of age before they get into a much risk of getting infected by HPV 16 and HPV 18 said the Cancer Research UK's head of policy, Sarah Woolnough.
