The British Health Minister Kevin Falcon has initiated the idea of developing better healthcare centers in B. C., with hip and knee replacement units at the UBC and Richmond hospitals, at reasonable premiums.
“Why British Columbia can't be the Mayo Clinic of the North?”, he asked.
The idea basically aims at generating money from better premiums and then utilizing them for providing better services.
The surgeons in the region have expressed agreement with the idea of setting up operating rooms, which will be functional at night as well as on weekends, supporting extra surgeries.
He said that this will enable the state to provide better healthcare to the residents, who travel for education, from other parts of the country.
The Government officials have indicated that they have took the 2006 “conversation on health” into force.
Premier Gordon Campbell had ignited a debate last year, when he had proposed for taking on the backlogs of hip and knee surgeries in Saskatchewan. However, the Premier of Saskatchewan, Brad Wall, had turned down this proposal.
