The Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT), which will start operating in August this year, will boast of its six campuses by 2014.
Singapore's five polytechnics viz. Singapore Polytechnic, Temasek Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Republic Polytechnic and Nanyang Polytechnic have been selected for SIT's five campuses. The location for the headquarters for the institute is yet to be decided.
So far, five top foreign universities viz. DigiPen Institute of Technology, Newcastle University, Technical University of Munich, University of Nevada, and the Culinary Institute of America have signed deals to provide two-year degree programmes at SIT.
Approximately 50 per cent of the institute's faculty will be from foreign varsities, while the remaining will come from Singapore.
It will offer eight degree programmes, covering fields from culinary arts to video game design.
The SIT has plans to enroll its first batch of 500 students in August.
