It has been discovered time and again that people nowadays do not tend to sleep as much as required, and studies have revealed that inadequate sleep could very well be a result of one sleep disorder or another. While some people cannot sleep because they have insomnia or some other such problem, there are many who voluntarily choose to compromise on their sleep in favor of other activities.
Although there are no particular statistics in this regard, President of the Singapore Sleep Society, Dr. Lim Li Ling has stressed that there are many adults across Singapore who do not get the required 6 to 8 hours of sleep everyday, which is very much needed for optimal well-being.
"Lack of sleep is a common and largely under-recognized cause of daytime sleepiness and other health problems in countries such as Singapore, where the lifestyle is hectic and round-the-clock activities (such as online shopping and games) are available", said Dr. Lim.
Dr. Lim feels that most of the people who end up having problems falling asleep generally tend to have some bad habits which interfere with healthy sleep.
