The first batch of second generation of Lenovo notebooks was announced under the Federal Government's Digital Education Revolution by NSW. It was announced by NSW's Minister for Education and Training Verity Firth that some 66000 notebooks, will reach Year nine students with 10,000 every week.
She said that about 130,000 laptops in schools will be made available by mid-2010 with an aim of turning the classrooms into 21st century learning centre. These laptops are already in use by the Year seven students at xsel from February 23.
Bill Adams, xsel Manager said that the program was fortunate to be with the Digital Education Revolution. He said, "xsel supplies each student in the program with one of the second generation Lenovo netbooks".
The notebooks to be distributed have Windows 7 operating system and Intel Atom processor, packed with Microsoft Office 2007 suite. The notebooks also encompass Adobe software suite with Illustrator, Photoshop Elements, InDesign, Fireworks, Flash Professional, Dreamweaver and Connect.
Constructed for the Western NSW region, xsel is a school program that permits students passing NSW Selective School Placement Test while at their home school for receiving English, mathematics and science classes.
From last six months, the Federal Government is giving $2.2 billion for both the infrastructure of the school and the provision of offering laptops.
