Social Work May Enter the Realm of College Education

In an attempt to inculcate greater professionalism in social work, the British Association of Social Workers (BASW), has recommended that the BASW needs an independent college for social work.

In a survey conducted by its task force it was revealed that out of 1000 workers, the majority i. e., 99%, agreed that a college for social work was a necessity.

BASW's council voted last month to decide whether the association should set up an independent UK-wide college. The BASW’s college would be separate from the college being developed in England under the program for social work reform.

The council declared that the decision for the creation of the college would be contingent on the outcome of the ballot.

If the result is favorable then BASW would undertake the establishment of the college, otherwise it would carry on serving as it does presently. It would also continue to offer support to the college that is being developed under the program for social work reform.

A ballot paper released by BASW, revealing the reasons for the development of the college, said that this college would have a powerful authority on the principles of admission to the profession, endorsement of continuing professional development, career structure employer standards and so on.
