Michael J. Clair, an ex-Fall River dentist, has been found guilty and charged with fraudulent tricks after a continual billing for work by using the information of other dental practitioners. Clair illegally would prescribe painkillers and instead of using posts, he would temporarily use paper clips to carry out a procedure of root canal on the patients in order to save money. He even resolved to make it a permanent fix for the patients, which could be very hazardous and capable of inflicting discomfort and excruciating pain.
Clair, the son of a Maryland dentist, was first caught practicing deceptively in 1999 after which his license to practice was terminated followed by many other fraudulent instances taking place in Florida amid 2001 and 2002.
Between 2003 and 2005, Clair illegally billed an amount of around $130,000.
An investigation was probed into the matter by Massachusetts authorities. Massachusetts Dental Society Assistant Executive Director Karen Rafeld advises the patients to be more careful and seek a second opinion before getting any surgery done. M. J. Clair has been accused of fraudulent practices in some other states of the nation as well.
