Enormous level of burden has to be borne by the U. S Government each year for the cancer research and care. The cost of research has increased by more than a double since 1990 due to inflation.
Cancer continues to be the second leading reason of deaths in the United States alone, killing 562,000 people per year, according to the American Cancer society in Atlanta.
There has been a decrease in the death rates by 16% over the past 40 years, which is a positive sign for the researchers, but the kind of pressure it puts on the Government as regards to the funding of the research, is becoming an issue.
As per one of the surveys done in the country, the patients have to spend all of their savings during the entire period of their treatment.
The University of Pennsylvania published 140 success stories of the patients who had been cured of cancer, 33 stories (7.6%) that dealt with one or more patients who were dying or had died of cancer, and 10 articles (2.3%) that focused on both survival and death.
