An initiative taken up by the Neurological Foundation has marked this week as the “Brain Awareness Week”. The Foundation explained that the simple daily tasks adopted by people can lead to proper development of the brain. The online initiative has been named as “Grow a Bigger Brain in Seven Days”. It is available on the website brainweek. co. nz.
The campaign invites open participations, wherein the participants perform these daily tasks. As the day ends, they are provided with the number of brain cells they have developed.
The daily tasks include physical exercise, sufficient sleep, stress management, taking a balanced diet, maintaining social networks and mental exercises.
The campaign also includes initiatives that inspire people for testing their memories, keeping the brain attentive, improve language skills, performing logical functions, etc.
The volunteers describe salmon, cocoa beans, wholegrain, berry good and whole-wheat as the main brain foods. The functions of these foods vary adequately. Salmon provides fatty acids, proteins as well as low saturated fats, while cocoa beans lead to enhancement of mood, bliss and antioxidants in brain. Berry food on the other hand, provides nutrition for special brain actions and whole-wheat provides folic acid, vitamin B12 and vitamin B6. Tomatoes provide antioxidants like Lycopne.
