A recent study has put the option of treatment in early diabetes under considerable scrutiny, by suggesting that people who suffer from type 2 diabetes might not be able to benefit much from the two most common and popular drug treatments.
Published in the New England Journal of Medicine, the study instead advises that patients should be encouraged by doctors to try and make maximum improvements in their diets and indulge in more exercise.
"The front-line of defense for someone at risk of type-2 diabetes would be diet and exercise treatment. This should be considered first and has shown to be most effective in delaying or preventing the progression to type-2 diabetes", said researcher manager at Diabetes UK, Dr. Victoria King.
The extensive and large-scale study analyzed about 9,000 people, among whom a proper exercise and diet regime turned out to be more effective as compared to the drugs, and a better method to prevent the further development of the condition.
