Mountains bikers have nowhere to go
Mountains bikers have nowhere to go

Following concerns that mountain bike tracks were not environmentally sustainable and were made without proper authorization, the Blue Mountains City Council has voted to close all mountain bike tracks along the escarpment closest to Sydney and adjoining ridges.

The council however made efforts to find out substitute tracks for mountain bikers.

According to spokesman for the riders Alan David, want mountain biking according to them should be recognized as a legitimate sport.

He added, "Council itself has recognised that it wants to support that sport. Whether we can find a site that's going to be suitable for downhill riding, at this stage it's too early to know."

Councillors however closed down all tracks on the eastern escarpment that left several downhill bikers with nowhere to go for riding.

Ward 4 Councillor Mark Greenhill said, "People are not welcome to come up here, visit the Mountains and destroy our escarpment. I don't apologise for that."
