Patient benefited with oncology clinic

Patients will be greatly benefited at by the opening of a new oncology clinic at Moree District Hospital. This clinic will bring a rise in the cancer treatments available locally.

The clinic will be run on the third Wednesday of every month by Tamworth's full-time oncologist, Dr Matthew George.

Earlier, the patients seeking treatment had to travel about 500 kilometres to Tamworth but now, no more.

According to district health service nurse manager, Bronwyn Cosh, a lot of lobbying has gone in for the project but it has been worth it.

She added, "The local community, the local doctors, the local health service have all been lobbying for quite a while to have this service, an excellent service to have in our town and, the people living with cancer in Moree will benefit greatly from the service."

Edith Kable who is a member of the Moree Breast Cancer Support group stated, "We thought again and thought well that the better idea would be to raise money to get an oncology ward and then we would help all cancer patients."
