Mrs. Claire Murray from West Australia underwent a live-liver transplant operation in Singapore which was successful, even though her case involved a lot of complications. This woman was a drug addict and had been through the similar operation last year for the removal of her liver, but it failed to do any good to her as she recommenced with her habit of taking drugs.
The woman had been on drugs for the past 12 years, consuming heroin and amphetamines, and last year's donated liver could not help her system being in the right health, prompting her to undergo another similar operation.
The second operation was successfully conducted upon the patient. Mrs. Murray's mom was the first person who had been asked to donate her liver but Murray's aunt Carolyn decided to donate her liver, who was found to have a better compatibility than her mother.
The WA government refused her family's request for a second liver, but controversially agreed to an interest-free $258,000 loan to allow her and her family to travel to Singapore and undergo a live liver operation. The patient was taken care by, Dr. Prema Raj, a head doctor of the unit.
