The Canadian Cancer Society uses Daffodil Days not only to spread hope to the thousands affected by the disease but also to raise funds for these patients.
The society hopes to raise $230,000 this year by selling daffodils. The flowers will be priced at $6 for one bunch and $10 for two. The money accruing from the sale of daffodils will be utilized for cancer research, prevention strategies, and community services for patients and their families.
This year, the society is also launching daffodil pins. They will be made available at multiple locations. A daffodil pin can be obtained by making a small donation towards the benefit of cancer patients. Supporters can now also show their allegiance to the cause by wearing the daffodil pins on the first annual daffodil day on April 9.
The daffodil campaign will also include a door to door drive. Donors who cannot make it to the venue of the daffodil sales can now open their homes to volunteers and help make a difference in the fight against cancer.
Statistics estimate that 40% of women and 45% of men in Manitoba will be diagnosed with cancer.
The Canadian Cancer Society requests donations from all citizens to continue battling cancer.
