A recent study has revealed that women are two times more likely than men to die after suffering a heart attack. The latest finding seems to be another reason why more focus should be on health of women and their well-being.
It seems that the reason why more women end up dying is because they are much less likely than men to undergo an angiography to find vessel blockages or angioplasty to clear the blockages. And while experts feel that this is more because women tend to be older than men when they suffer heart attacks, the whole thing is just plain sad.
There have always been speculations that women have very less chances of suffering heart attacks, and while that was true up until sometime back, it does not seem to hold true now because women tend to live a life much like men do. They smoke, they drink, are as stressed about work and finances as men and work hard to earn their own living.
While it is true that a heart attack looks different in women than it does in men, and the symptoms are different as well, there is no reason why women should not receive the same treatments as men. They should also be put on aggressive treatments, like their male counterparts.
Doctors generally do not employ quick and aggressive treatment methods for women, thinking that they would not need them, but it seems like this does not hold true anymore.
Medics should now focus on undertaking heart attack treatments for women which are at par with those administered for men, as this would help save lives and let women live a healthy, long life post a heart attack.
