400 million Facebook users have been threatened with the new strategies of hackers who are sending spam messages to pilfer out banking statements and other sensitive information.
The e-mails request the users to verify their passwords and click on the attachments to get the log-in IDs, as per anti-virus software maker McAfee Inc.
With the help of regular internal e-mail system, the hackers are targeting Facebook users with infected messages. If any user clicks on the attachments, it downloads much malicious software and steals passwords.
The company has started informing its users about the issue and recommends to immediately delete the mail from their accounts.
Around tens of millions of spam has been sent across Europe, the United States and Asia by hackers since the campaign began on Tuesday. The threat is of a potential to destroy a huge number network.
This is a part of a phishing scam as Facebook never sends such e-mails to its users to reset their passwords. The e-mail also has poor program and weird phrases which the users have to encounter, the moment they click on such mails.
