Doctors have recently opened the first ever clinic dedicated to helping children from across Britain who are addicted to video games, Internet and other similar technologies.
Inaugurated as the Capio Nightingale Hospital, the private facility is located in Central London, and the service was introduced after repeated calls from parents who were highly concerned about their children's constant use of games, Internet or mobile phones, among other such gadgets and services.
As was confirmed by a spokesperson for the hospital, the service would be provided for kids as young as 12, but the main target group would continue to be the 15-17 year olds.
"Mental health services need to adapt quickly to the changing worlds that young people inhabit, and understand just how seriously their lives can be impaired by unregulated time online, on-screen or in-game", said Consultant Psychiatrist Richard Graham, who is leading the new clinic.
Dr. Graham, who also attends to the needs of NHS patients, reported that some parents admitted that their children "flew into a rage" when they were asked to turn off the computer, and at times, the police had to be called to sort out the problem.
In such a scenario, it seems essential to have a medical facility like the latest one.
