The overseas aspirants from Singapore, who dream to get internships and placements in Harvard University’s Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Centre (BIDMC) School, will now be helped to achieve their goal by the new partnership agreement between BIDMC and National University Health Systems (NUHS).

This agreement, expected to be signed by Friday as a Memorandum of Understanding, will be providing wide opportunity for more collaborative studies, education and researches. This deal will be more effective as it comes at the time when NUHS is all set to start its American-style residency program, being introduced in May.

Scrutinizing “top-grade” applicants from Singapore in BIDMC will become easier with this collaborative effort, as Dr. Mark Zeidel, Chairman of Medicine at BIDMC stated that it had been a difficult task to identify students while sitting in Boston.

It is also expected that with this initiative, BIDMC's students can also apply for getting rotation placements in Singapore, as this will widen the scope of their clinical exposure. This will also be helpful to the students in Singapore as BIDMC faculty members will also be conducting medical education courses there under the agreement. It will help fastening the ties as both the institutions are already working upon certain research related studies, e. g., metabolism and cancer biology.

Addressing the reporters Dean of the Medical School Mr. Wong said, “Given the strength of BIDMC here, we would be able to learn and develop similar programs for the benefit of the students”.
