Smokers will now face a ban on smoking while sitting outside cafes at Sydney's Bondi Beach from July.
The Waverley Council has voted to impose a ban on smoking within 10 meters of outdoor cafes in the popular tourist spot.
With the move, Waverley now joins the list of growing number of councils to call out for a ban on smoking in public outdoor areas after a campaign by the Heart Foundation which has been lobbying councils to implement the bans.
The restrictions are revealed to be imposed to council-regulated footpaths, however, not to internal courtyards or beer gardens.
Councillor Kerryn Sloan, quotes, "[It's] the same for people who smoke who are actually locals. They tend to use it as a smoking area not an eating area".
She adds that the ban is initiated to crack down on tourists who are away from Australia's increasingly anti-smoking attitude.
The ban is reported to include playgrounds and parks and comes into force in July.
