ACT Health Minister Katy Gallagher has extended his assistance to the Commonwealth's proposed health system shake-up, when he reportedly tabled with Chief Minister Jon Stanhope to discuss some of their concerns about the changes.
Prime Minister Kevin Rudd seeks the states and territories to give a third of their GST revenue for funding a new national system for health and hospitals.
It is reported that the three major issues they raised were the number of interstate patients coming to Canberra, the high costs of the ACT health system and the ownership of Calvary Public Hospital.
Mr. Rudd's plan mainly strikes at the Federal Government to take full policy and funding responsibility for GPs and primary healthcare services.
"This could have very good results for the ACT, if our regional status is more acknowledged, if the Commonwealth picks up 60 per cent of the activity in our hospitals", Gallagher believe.
Both of them reveal to give their in-principle support to the reform plan proposed.
Ms. Gallagher says Mr. Rudd has indicated the issues can be worked through.
