Official reports by scientists have revealed that they have managed to discover substantial evidence to support that early humans had been living on the Indonesian island of Flores nearly 1 million years ago as well.

Valuable stone tools have recently been discovered by an archaeological dig that has significantly managed to push back the age that hominins had been living on the island. The scientists have now speculating that this mystery man might have ended up as evolving into the now popular hobbit of Flores.

Dr. Adam Brumm, Research Fellow at the Centre for Archaeological Science at the University of Wollongong, was one of researchers of the team that went to Indonesia to exactly try and find out just how long humans have been living on the Australian doorstep.

"We've found a site in the Soa Basin of Flores, which is in central Flores, which back dates the known occupation of early humans on the island by at least 120,000 years", Dr. Brumm said.

Details of the complete research have been published in the journal Nature.
