Cancer survivor and seven time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong, 37, and Anna Hansen, his girlfriend are expecting a baby in June, Armstrong's fourth child. The American cycling star has three children from his marriage to Kristin Richards.
Diagnosed with testicular cancer in 1996, as cancer spread to other parts of his body, Armstrong underwent chemotherapy treatment. Since, it was initially thought that chemotherapy would destroy his chances of having children, he stockpiled sperm prior to his cancer treatment, and which his ex-wife used to conceive their children. However, this time round, his girlfriend is expecting without resorting to artificial fertilization.
Armstrong, who retired in 2005, is planning on a comeback, getting ready for the 2009 Tour de France by racing in the Giro d'Italia and Australia 's Tour Down Under. However, his return has drawn mixed reviews in cycling circles, as accused of doping practices on several occasions, most notably in L'Equipe, the French sports newspaper in 2005. Six of his urine samples from his 1999 Tour victory, were found to contain the blood-boosting drug EPO, in 2006 the international cycling body cleared him of these charges.
Armstrong, who has always denied the doping charges, complained last week international drug testers were targeting him and in the past 19-weeks he has been tested for drugs 11-times, with the latest test conducted by officials from the International Cycling Union on Thursday.
He has also on a six-month probation period by the United States Anti-doping Agency, and in order to make his cycling comeback official, he will need to pass USADA's out-of-competition testing pool.
