Kindle for Mac has been finally released by Amazon, which makes it easy for users to read their Kindle books on any device. Kindle for Mac is a bare-bones reader, akin to the PC version.
The free app for OS is accessible in more than 100 countries, with joining the ranks of Kindle for iPhone, Kindle for Blackberry and Kindle for PC.
Pages can be turned either by the scroll-wheel of the user's mouse or the arrow keys. The user can view the notes and bookmarks made on other devices, but the authority of creating new ones is forbidden.
The standard Mac shortcuts like Cmd + and Cmd - (to zoom the text), don't work. The user has to open a special panel which can leave a blank "cut-out" in the text after it has been closed.
In order to synchronize the user's bookmarks and current place the book across all supported devices, the Kindle for Mac app uses Amazon's Whispersync technology. As it is in beta, it fails to support full text search, highlighting and creating notes. Amazon has promised to upgrade all these features in the updated version.
