HTC Attacks Apple Right Back for Patent Infringement Accusation - Any Lessons Learned?
HTC Attacks Apple

Apple seems to be on a lawsuit slapping spree. First Nokia and then HTC, seems like everyone infringed one patent of the iPhone or another. First couple of times we did take Apple seriously, being the giant that it is, and also because we all love the iPhone, but now it seems to be turning really absurd and weird.

The most recent development in the iPhone trouble world was that Apple had slapped a lawsuit against HTC, claiming that the Nexus One, made exclusively for Google, had infringed as many as 20 different patents.

While some others might have been a little scared that a giant like Apple is attacking them, HTC decided to fight right back and is already prepped up to defend itself with all the ammunition possible. "HTC disagrees with Apple's actions and will fully defend itself. HTC strongly advocates intellectual property protection and will continue to respect other innovators and their technologies as we have always done", said HTC Chief Executive Officer Peter Chou.

We certainly want to give a huge Kudos to HTC for the act. Maybe this should be a lesson for Apple to try and not slap anymore lawsuits to any of the companies, whether big or small. A similar lesson came through yesterday when Microsoft lost a patent infringement case to a smaller company. Now Apple does not necessarily have to lose a case in order to learn something!

In today's technology driven world, such lawsuits have become the norm. No matter what a company comes up with, a rival is ready to point out the similarities the new technology or device has with some other already existing gadget. In such a scenario, instead of trying to wrap each other up in fights and court battles, companies should seriously try and find something which is completely new.

And as far as Apple goes, the company should seriously stop trying to preserve the "King" status of its iPhone by trying to put all other smartphones down, and move on to promoting its other products and preserving their reputation, like the iPad maybe?
