Min-Kyu Choi’s creation of an inventive version of a bulky 3 pin plug has got him the Brit Insurance design of the year award. He has managed to beat competitors from around the world, counting the late fashion designer Alexander McQueen's last collection.
With an Apple like design, the 1cm thick (the standard version is 4.5cm) slimline folding plug is sure to make him a rich man.
As luck would have it, the award would not have been possible for Mr. Choi, if it wasn’t for the Magsafe adaptor which actually scratched the surface of his Macbook Air and inspired him to design a safer and slimmer alternative.
“I thought it would be a good idea to create a plug that could be folded flat so the pins would not cause any damage and also to make it as thin as the laptop itself “, he said.
Antony Gormley, Chairman of the Judgment Panel at London’s Royal College of Art, believes that the invention of this slim plug would surely make a difference to a lot of people’s lives.
This is not it; there are expectations for the new design to be implemented by other manufacturers so they could contribute further ideas for creating a smaller model.
The folding plug devise is expected to launch this year.
