To Cope Up With Bigger Health Problems, School Of Public Health Initiated

With an intention of working upon getting solutions to the biggest health problems, a new school of public health at Massey University in Wellington was launched this Wednesday, which will be guiding the doctoral and the post graduation students in co-operation with five research centers that are already functional.

These already existing research centers, take up detailed study of the effects of tobacco, alcohol, breathing disorders like asthma, cancers and other industrial ailments and the health problems faced by Maori and Pacific Islanders.

Head of the School of Public Health, Associate Professor, Cindy Kiro said that the school functions on collaborative efforts for widening the understanding of troubles related to heath and their preventions. She stated, “Massey University’s school is based on different disciplines working together to improve our understanding of health and prevention of disease”.

The school comprises of five centers with 140 researchers assembled at Social and Health Outcome Research and Evaluation Centre, Auckland, with the Centre for Public Health Research Wellington, Te Ropu Whariki in Auckland, the Research Centre for Maori Health and Development, Wellington and Manawatu and the Sleep/Wake Research Centre Wellington.
