Sony released its new television commercial this week to highlight the functionality of its forthcoming PlayStation Move motion system, which makes use of controllers with colored LEDs, as well as the already available PlayStation Eye camera.
The PlayStation Move-centric TV campaign, "It Only Does Everything," further takes a dig at the functionality of its rival products - Nintendo's Wii motion controller and Microsoft's Project Natal motion-sensing system - without actually naming them.
The commercial features actor Jerry Lambert who, as the fictional Sony VP Kevin Butler, mocks at a Wii Sports-akin two-dimensional joggle control design; and says "real boxers don't hit like this" - and thereafter acts as if involved in a slap fight of sorts.
Further, making evident mockery of Microsoft's demo of Project Natal, during a dodgeball game called Ricochet was demonstrated, the Sony ad has the illusory Butler saying: "It's also got what we in the future call 'buttons,' which turn out to be pretty important to those handfuls of millions who enjoy playing shooters, platformers, and pretty much anything that doesn't include catching a big red ball."
Meanwhile, the backdrop of the ad features the forthcoming SOCOM 4 being played with the LED-topped Sony PlayStation Move controller as well as an LED-less PlayStation Move Subcontroller.
The ad also confirms the Move's November launch; thereby indicating that Sony would be looking to gain from the ever-so-significant holiday season!
