Podiatrists Opposed to Long Term Use of Ugg Boots

Podiatrists opined that Ugg boots may cause great harm to your feet. Ugg boots are widely popular among young adults.

Dr. Ian Drysdale, Principal of the British College of Osteopathic Medicine, says that he was greatly concerned when he saw numerous girls wearing these boots. Drysdale judges that if girls in their formative years support these shoes for long periods it could harm the structure of their feet.

The bones and ligaments of the feet of these girls are moldable. Since the Ugg boots do not offer proper support, it makes the feet vulnerable to deformation. The feet and ankle can roll inward causing a knock-knees and putting pressure on the lower back.

Mike O'Neill, Consultant Podiatric Surgeon, said, "As the foot slides around, you get wear and tear on the joints on the inside of the foot. The ankle is in the wrong position, the thigh bone also changes position, and you get an abnormal movement in the pelvis, which leads to back problems".

Podiatrists believe that since the problem with this footwear is the lack of support, it should not be used for walking long distances. They compare the functionality of Ugg's to that of slippers.
