Move to Save Whittington and Kingston Hospitals

The Defend Whittington Hospital Coalition (DWHC) is contemplating another attempt to save the hospital. They are considering the idea of taking last month's protests to the next level. This would include high profile events across Camden and Islington.

The Coalition came into force after proposals to shut the Whittington's A&E department were leaked in November. The protests were also backed by Health Minister Mike O'Brien who condemned the proposals in the House of Commons.

The coalition is hopeful that it will get the support of health workers and health worker unions. Shirley Franklin, Co-Chairwoman of the DWHC, said, "We are talking about lots of little events all over the place, and perhaps a rally or meeting outside the Whittington".

There also has been a massive movement objecting to the closure of Kingston Hospital. A petition sporting 15000 signatures is meant to send a crystal clear message to NHS.

MPs Edward Davey and Susan Kramer have also jumped in and launched a campaign to save the hospital's A&E and maternity units once they were shown a document by NHS that declared the probable closure of these units.
