Reports have confirmed that the Japanese police are now recommending that there should be charges against a driver who has claimed that his Toyota Prius crashed due to brake failure, after a thorough analysis of data from the car showed that there were no defects.
The 37 year old driver, whose identity has not been revealed yet as no charges have been filed so far, informed the police that he pressed on the brakes but they did not work, causing his Prius to hit another car which had stopped at a red light.
Two people in the car were marginally injured in the July 19 accident, which resulted in two other cars getting bumped at a Matsudo city intersection. Data obtained from an event recorded, or black box, of the Prius, which was sent to a laboratory for analysis, revealed that the brakes had been working just fine, as was shared by the police on Friday.
The Japanese police are now calling for a charge of negligent driving which resulted in damage or injury against the driver of the crashed Prius.
Toyota's Prius, which has become the world's best-selling hybrid vehicle, has been officially recalled from across Japan and all other international locations mainly because of a flaw in the antilock braking that end up making the brakes unresponsive for some time.
