Reboot, a non- profit organization, is giving a new meaning to Sabbath. Sabbath, which is traditionally observed by Jews as a day for rest and prayers, will now be furnished with a new connotation by Reboot. It is being hailed as a day when technology addicts free themselves from their devices and devote time to family and friends instead.
Dan Rollman, a member of Reboot and founder of the Universal World Record Database Web site, created the Sabbath manifesto because he thought that technology was taking control of people’s lives. The manifesto is meant to liberate people from their technology ridden lives.
The coming weekend, Rebooters will follow an entire day of freedom from their devices. This day of will start at sundown Friday and end at sundown Saturday, which marks the established Jewish Sabbath. The day will be called as the National Day of Unplugging.
Highlighting the importance of the day, Rollman said, "There's clearly a social problem when we're interacting more with digital interfaces than our fellow human beings. Rich, engaging conversations are harder to come by than they were a few years ago. Our attention spans are silently evaporating”.
Some of directive principles of the manifesto are avoiding technology, connecting with loved ones, promotion your health and avoiding commerce.
