Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have released a statement claiming the risk of swine flu is diminishing in US. Data suggests that cases of swine flu have decreased in the Northern Hemisphere.
However, WHO claims heightened swine flu activity is being noted in West Africa and in South and Southeast Asia, particularly Thailand. In Central America and the Caribbean, the outbreak of swine flu has been widespread.
WHO spokesman Gregory Hartl said, "In the next weeks, 10-15 countries will receive vaccine. We are doing what we can to limit the effects of H1N1 on the African continent".
Since there is apparent calm the northern hemisphere with regards to swine flu activity, the World Health Organization is now focusing on the Southern Hemisphere.
The start of the fall season marks the inception of the traditional flu season in the southern hemisphere. It is believed that swine flu will be the principal form of seasonal flu this year. As a result, a vaccine against H1N1 is being integrated in the host of seasonal flu vaccines.
The WHO confirmed that it shipped 1.1 million doses of swine flu vaccine to Cuba on Wednesday and that batches are on the way to Honduras and El Salvador. 10 to 15 African countries will also receive consignments of the vaccine in the next few weeks. Nigeria alone will receive 2.8 million doses.
