More than 100 patients, who were seeking treatment from Liverpool Women's Hospital, are suing it for at least £10 million.
The patients alleged receiving poor treatment from Consultant Urogynaecologist of the hospital, Dr. George Rowland, whose faulty treatment came under the scanner of the hospital in September 2008, has been suspended, though on full pay.
Liverpool Women's Hospital announced last April that Rowland's work was being reviewed by it since 2001. It also recalled hundreds of his patients as a result.
An independent review commissioned by the hospital, which was recently released, on the workings of Mr. Rowland, severely criticized the trust for "not picking up on his mistakes earlier". The trust, in its statement, apologized "unreservedly".
Many of Mr. Rowland's patients have alleged that they were either given a totally wrong diagnosis, made to go through an incorrect surgery or were provided with inaccurate information, which in turn left them unable to give informed consent.
"The poor treatment the women received manifested itself in different ways", said a spokeswoman for Liverpool Women's NHS Foundation Trust.
The hospital has confirmed that claims of all the grieved patients are going to be handled by the NHS Litigation Authority.
