Renovators Still Exposed to Asbestos Risks

Reports are that Australian do-it-yourself renovators still seem to be careless and flippant about the risks which are posed by asbestos, with about 60% admitted to exposing themselves to the potentially fatal product.

A poll of the NSW-based renovators has discovered "frightening" levels of exposure to building materials now seem to be directly linked to killer lung disease.

Nearly 53% of the renovators interviewed confessed that their partner had also faced some expose to the material, while 40% of them shared that even their children had not been spared.

For the sake of study, Sydney's Dr. Anthony Johnson polled over 3,600 home renovators, and he termed the result as "unexpected and troubling".

"I think it is frightening ... people are educated about the risks but they are still taking them. We know from experience that people who have had only a little bit of exposure to asbestos can develop life-threatening diseases, such as mesothelioma", shared Dr. Johnson.

Up until the early 1980s, asbestos was commonly used in homes built across Australia.
