Weather Change Augmenting Allergic Reactions

The change in weather makes people highly susceptible to allergies. Moisture in the air releases mold and other allergens.

Owing to heavy rainfall this year, trees like junipers, cedars, cypresses and redwoods have produced a great amount of pollen. As temperatures rise, pollen is released in the air.

Allergic reactions are caused when pollen is inhaled. The human immune system attacks foreign particles like pollen eliciting an allergic reaction.

According to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, 50 million American citizens suffer from asthma or allergies and spend $6 billion on allergy medications.

Some doctors are of the opinion that this rise is allergic reactions can be attributed to the weak immune systems of Americans. Americans have very hygienic living standards which weakens their immune system, making them highly vulnerable to allergies standard of living.

People living in third-world countries have fewer allergies, because the host of infections that they are exposed to makes their immune systems stronger.

Allergy specialist Dr. Theodore Chu at the South Bay Allergy and Asthma group says, "I think it's going to be a severe season".
