4 Cylinder Engines Get the Upper Hand over V6 V8 Engines

With changing time and changing technology, people's choice is also changing. In early days, people had a passion for big cars with V6, V8 engines. But looking at Americans today, they love to go for engines which are small, like the 4 cylinder fuel efficient engines. From Ward's Auto 2009, it was seen that the installation rate had dropped from 57.1%, from 63.9% in '08 for V6 and V8 engines.

It was also seen very few cars had V8 engines in them which were sold in 2009. The market share for 4 cylinder cars had increased from 51% in 2008 to 61 % in 2009. A little factor that also encouraged Americans to downsize was economic problems and cash for clunkers. Americans are now getting rid of those big cars and started buying cars like F-150.

It was seen that the truck buyers are still going for V8 engines where as the car buyers are shifting to 4 cylinder engines.

After a small survey, it was seen that the bestselling vehicle in the year 2009 was F-150, then on the second place was Toyota Camry and then on the third place was Chevy Silverado. Truck owners still go for big engines because they are a little doubtful about two cylinders missing.

With the increase from 7.4% to 7.9% Flex fuel, hybrids, and diesels made huge gains in 2009.
