"Red Shirts" mark their protest on the roads of Bangkok

According to the authorities, thousands of red-shirted anti-government protesters snarled traffic in Bangkok Saturday with a motor convoy through the city.

A leader of the United Front of Democracy against Dictatorship said, the convoy contained as many as 30,000 protesters on motorcycles and in trucks and cars.

Protest leader Veera Musikhapong told The Bangkok Post, "We will travel to find love from the people of Bangkok and to unite them with us, the poor peasants, to overthrow the elite-backed government."

The Post also reported that police were deployed throughout the city to direct traffic as the convoy passed peacefully.

In a week of protests aimed at ousting the government of Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, the mobile rally by the so-called "Red Shirts" was the latest tactic.

The Post further reported that representatives of the government and the protesters tentatively were scheduled to meet Sunday to discuss their differences. (With Inputs from Agencies)
