A 16-year-old boy who police said made an announcement at Walmart ordering all black people in the Washington Township, southern New Jersey store to leave, facing an afflicting harassment and bias intimidation, authorities revealed on Saturday.
The boy, whose name is not being disclosed because he is a juvenile, managed to grab one of the courtesy phones at Walmart's Washington Township store Sunday evening and politley announced: "Attention, Walmart customers: All black people, leave the store now," police posted.
However, the teen was arrested Friday and brought to the custody of his parents; police did not know whether he had a lawyer.
"This was an extremely disturbing event on many levels," Gloucester County Prosecutor Sean Dalton quoted at a news conference. "Any statements like these that can cause harm or grave concern must be addressed as quickly we possibly can."
In addition, he added that the case would be dealt in juvenile court in neighboring Atlantic County, where the boy lives.
Police revealed that they were also looking for a teenage boy who is alleged to accompany the suspect to the store, but the other boy has not been charged.
