Democratic leaders are planning to pass health care bill to avoid the threat of filibuster by Senate Republicans. There were some changes made in the Senate bill and the reconciliation bill passed by the house on Sunday.
Including Rep. John Shimkus, R-IL 19th District, and Rep. Timothy Johnson, R-IL 15th District every Republican voted. According to the party, the bill would increase taxes for individuals and the employers.
After President Barack Obama said, that he would sign an executive order that would block the funding of abortions, Costello got in favor of the legislation. Rep. Jerry Costello, D-IL 12th District, also voted when the President promised an executive order that would ban federal funding of abortions. There is a hope that the bill will be passed after it reaches Sen. Roland Burris in the Senate.
After meeting with the members of the college’s fraternity chapter Alpha Phi Alpha, Burris said that he had helped pass insurance coverage for children, the stimulus package, stricter credit card rules, and health care reform.
"This time next week, next Sunday, we probably should be voting on that bill that the house has sent over to us", Burris said. He also said that because he wants to serve the people of Illinois, he won’t be working full time as senator.
