Republicans Yet to Celebrate Their Share of Happiness

Democrats have a reason to celebrate, as their milestone health care bill has been passed by the House. This situation could somehow take a twist as the Republicans do not seem to be happy with the decision made by the House and could possibly kill the bill.

Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch said that this is not a onetime deal, and that they are most probably going to force the House to vote on health care again, before Easter.

The House very well knew that the new bill passed had not been able to make everyone happy, so a subsequent bill, called fixes, was also passed, later on Sunday.

On Tuesday, the Senate is expected to start the work on the fixes bill, using a little-understood process known as settlement.

For Democrats, reconciliation is the perfect remedy to what they feel is Republican obstructionism in the upper chamber. The process is interference-proof, requiring only 51 votes for final passage rather than the usual 60 to conquer a barrier by the minority party.

For Republicans, reconciliation is their best opportunity to kill the smaller bill or make changes to it, because the House and Senate must pass the same bills, even a minor pinch would propel it back to the House for another vote.
