According to a report, in Las Vegas, Nevada, gluten-free soup mixes and lounge mix are the latest to be added to the increasing list of products that have been recalled over the past two weeks owing to a salmonella contamination.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says that the Vegetable Soup Mix and Onion Soup Mix produced by El Peto Products and Grandma Emily's BBQ Lounge Mix include hydrolyzed vegetable protein, a common flavor enhancer, which has been willingly recalled by U. S.-based Basic Food Flavors, Inc.
Many products made in Canada, and approximately 50 manufactured in the U. S., have been affected by the recall.
However, no sickness related to the recall products has been reported so far in either country and CFIA says that the risk to consumers is small.
The CFIA cautions that food tainted with salmonella might not look or smell spoiled.
Salmonella can lead to critical or even fatal infections in young children, the elderly and people who have weak immune systems.
Others might witness short-term symptoms such as headaches, vomiting, diarrhea and nausea.
